Under the Same Sun

UNDER THE SAME SUN MANDATE – UTSS cares for disadvantaged students with albinism, placing them in select boarding schools, where they are protected, integrated, and provided with the tools they need to learn.

Albinism is a congenital absence of pigment in the skin and hair. This means there is no protection from the sun and life expectancy due to skin cancer is short. This lack of pigment also compromises eyesight. By age 30, most will be nearly blind. Sadly, outdated myths about those afflicted means they will be a target for criminals who hunt them for use in superstitious potions created by witch doctors. It is not uncommon to see children with Albinism, missing limbs that are used as ingredients for these horrific concoctions. Often, family members will assist these criminals in exchange for money.

There are organizations that are pushing to make these criminal acts punishable with more severe consequences and we urge anyone who reads this to add your name to lists of protests to encourage stricter punishments. People with albinism, with the help of our donors, can complete any level of schooling and stay protected as long as they are in school. jodiLee will donate $1 from every product ordered for this charity.
